DIG IT are highly skilled, experienced and confident piling contractors offering concrete, bored, shoring and screw piling services to Sydney and the surrounding areas. Whether it be a commercial, residential, or industrial project, DIG IT has you covered.

Piling is an essential part of any construction project and forms the very basis of the build. It is the crucial support needed for any kind of structure. Especially when deep excavation is undertaken in the close proximity of neighbouring buildings or the foundation ground is not suitable to support the structure alone.

The process works by inserting large amounts of wood, steel or concrete into the soil. The deep insertion of these elements ensures a sturdier base for the construction project to take place.

The piling process cannot begin however until other important factors have been taken into consideration, like the condition of the soil beneath the ground. Here at DIG IT though, you are in extremely good hands as we will assess a number of aspects to ensure that the area is ‘pile ready’ before any work begins. These include: soil conditions and depth, depth and diameter of holes required and underlying rock type.

Contiguous Piles & Secant

In areas of unstable or saturated ground conditions, DIG IT can consult and advise on the best shoring and retaining wall solutions.

For work sites, close to or adjacent to other structures and where a retaining wall may be required to add strength and protect existing features before excavation of the site, DIG IT can install contiguous pile walls. These, as the name suggests, use a series of closely aligned piles to form a retaining wall. This piles for this type of retaining wall may use either hand augured, machine bored piles or grout-injected piles depending on site-specific conditions.

We can install all types of hand augured contiguous piles for the construction of a deep basement, an underground garage or a retaining wall, at the same time setting a strong guaranteed foundation for your house without adding vibration or drilling which would occur if you used machine piling.

If water seepage is of primary concern, we can advise and execute the installation of secant pile walls. These types of retaining walls make use of a series of interlocking grout injected piles to prevent water table seepage during and after excavation of the site.

CFA Piles (Grout, Concrete Injected)

In ground conditions that might be unstable due to highly saturated soils or low to medium rock strength, DIG IT will recommend the use of grout injected piles. This type of pile involves the injection of a grout and concrete mixture into the hole under pressure as the auger is removed, which then forms the pile. This method is a cost-effective solution for ground conditions in which standard drilling methods are unsuitable or uneconomical.

Capping Beams

Capping Beams form the top “cap” of the finished piers, providing an additional structural support to tie the top of the piles together and form a solid wall.

The function of a Capping Beam is two-fold:

  • To prevent or inhibit lateral displacement of the installed retaining piles or columns during the excavation process
  • To transfer vertical structural loads from the building when constructed to the piles, columns or retaining structures, which can include shotcrete

DIG ITs shotcrete management and site teams are reliable, willing, safety-conscious and committed. Shotcrete is perfectly suited to vertical shoring requirements such as piled retaining walls. With the introduction of rows of ground anchors holding back each excavated level, shotcrete offers the final structural element of retention and also the final finished basement walls for safe, rapid construction.

Shotcrete offers:

  • Rapid application
  • Remote placement
  • High strength
  • Low permeability
  • Excellent bond
  • High durability

Anchoring & Walers

Our staff at DIG IT also have extensive experience in the drilling and installation of anchors and rock bolts in various ground conditions. Ground anchors are needed to transfer the horizontal load acting on a retaining wall, back into the ground or rock where the anchor is fixed. In simple terms, the anchors will hold the retaining wall in place.

This process itself involves a metal bar being inserted into a pre-drilled hole in the ground. The metal bar is encased in cement grout which fixes the anchor in place as it hardens. One end of the anchor goes into the slope behind the retaining wall and the other end is set into the retaining wall itself.

A ground anchor is a device that is designed to support structures, excavations, slopes, embankments and is used in geotechnical and construction applications.

Earth anchors can be used in either temporary or permanent applications. Typical uses for ground anchors include supporting retaining walls, retaining and shoring systems, structures, slopes, embankments and to offer lateral support for vertical structures.

In addition to the above, DIG IT also offers their expertise and workmanship in:
